Introduction
Today, 12 billion condoms are sold every year worldwide.
Two French aristocrats, the Prince de Bourbon, and his partner the Count de Bizemont, decided to introduce a new type of sophisticated condom that has a certain Je ne sais quoi.
We want to take the condom box and put it ON the bedside table, not hidden away in some drawer. – the Prince
The idea is to make condoms part of the refined, luxurious world, far away from its seedy connotations. – the Count
The origin of the word condom is still controversial. A legend, which emerged during the Middle Ages, claims that the origin of the word comes from the Latin word condom, meaning receptacle, hidden, or covered. Quite interestingly, this is incorrect since receptacle in Latin is receptaculum, hidden is occultus, and covered is tego.
Client
This work was commissioned by the french designer Gil De Bizemont. He had recently created THE ORIGINAL CONDOMĀ®, and needed a website to promote his products within the American market.
Website needs
Since the company and the products had already been created, the website had to follow strict design guidelines.
Mainly, since the website had to represent a classy french product, the design had to thoroughly reflect that. Thus, a sleek black background was nicely complemented with an orange-gold foreground, and a crown as the main logo. The result is a clean and smooth interface that is appealing and warm without being overwhelming.
Immediately, I recommended using flash technology for this project. Personally, even though I am not the biggest fan of flash, it was clearly the best option since I know how to code actionscript flawlessly. This type of website is very well suited for this product’s promotion.
Technology and skills
The entire website, from design and concept, to brainstorming transitions and animations to finally coding, was made by me. The design was made in Photoshop.
For the coding, I used Adobe flex technology, which I am very familiar with. The animation library used was boostworthy, and the data was loaded by xml, so the client can freely manage the data.
3D animations were not made by me.
