Discovering Film, Part II

December 2018

This post is the continuation of Discovering Film, Part I... On December 2018 I was starting my journey into film. This is the story (part II) of my first film tryouts.

HP5

After trying consumer films, I started experimenting more classic ones. The first I tried was HP5, being one of the most used Black and White film.

Olympus XA & Fujicolor C200

I was enjoying shooting film so much that I was starting to need something else than the Leica M6. After making some research on the internet I decided to buy the Olympus XA. It’s the smallest point and shoot in the world and it's a range finder. The lens quality is not on par with a Leica, obviously, but it makes it nevertheless a very fun camera to use. I used Fujicolor C200 Film on this next roll.

Kodak Ektar 100

I ended up my film exploration by trying more professional films. Among those, an instant favorite was Kodak Ektar 100. The colors of that film are just amazing. The only downside being a 100 ISO you need a fair amount of light to shoot.

Kodak Portra 400

I ended up my Film exploration by trying a favorite among many film photographers. And for a reason. Kodak Portra 400 (and 800) is just an amazing film. It comes at a highers price tag (10$ a roll), but the quality is there. If you care about quality vs quantity, then Portra is the way to go. Also using ISO 400 is just ideal for any kind of situation.
